OLDUVAI GORGE

The Cradle of Mankind and site of Louis and Mary Leakey's famous discovery of prehistoric human remains dating back 1.8 million years ago. The Gorge has revealed fossils of pre-historic elephants, enormous ostriches, giant horned sheep and the one and a quarter million-year-old Nutcracker Man.

There is a small, but interesting museum here and a thatched open-sided banda overlooking the gorge where visitors can enjoy an informative talk from the resident guide.
