The Ngaroi.
‘An Island of Eden’
The Ngaroi is a private concession area bordering the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Spanning open grasslands, kopjes, ridges, acacia woodland and water holes dotted along the Alamana River The Ngaroi boasts a diverse number of habitats.
We believe that The Ngaroi is one of the few places left in northern Tanzania where our guests can discover the true essence of safari.
Because The Ngaroi is an exclusive use area under our own management we have complete freedom to Game Drive by day and by night and also to outfit Game Walks and overnight Non-Traditional Fly Camps.
The Ngaroi has an all round game presence however the green season months from November until June see the vast migratory herds of Zebra and Wildebeest filing through in search of good grazing lands.
The beauty of The Ngaroi lies in its diversity, rolling plains studded with rock kopjes, high ridges and acacia lined rivers are all part of the ever-changing scenery.
The main predator on the open plains is the Cheetah and together with the Serengeti Cheetah project we are gradually beginning to understand the Cheetah population within The Ngaroi. Our guests are all encouraged to help with Cheetah identification with response forms supplied in camp.
In addition to the Cheetahs of The Ngaroi there is a healthy number of larger cats including Lion and Leopard as well as the smaller varieties of Serval and African Wildcats.
Like Osunyai, The Ngaroi has the Wildlife Explorer wilderness camp treatment and is hosted by one of our Specialist Walking Guides.
The accommodation tents are set against 3 different Kopjes all with uninterrupted views out onto the plains of The Ngaroi where herds of plains game can be seen meandering too and fro.
The tents are large and airy with full width windows and en-suite bathrooms, King sized double or two extra long single beds, hanging wardrobe, luggage racks and interior light tables. Exquisite scatter cushions and African textiles complete the furnishings. A separate dining tent is set under the shade of a towering kopje whilst a the lounge/library tent is set looking west towards the setting sun providing an alternative place to relax during the heat of the day.
The Wildlife Explorer experience includes the use of specially converted Open Vehicles at all of our Wilderness Camps in addition to ones 4wd Safari Vehicle providing complete open-air game driving, windscreens lie flat and the sunshade may be removed allowing 360 degree uninterrupted game-viewing.
Night Drives using either the open vehicles or the safari land cruisers open up a completely different facet of safari, painting nocturnal pictures with hand held spotlights the night-time animals are suddenly part of the game viewing experience.
As an added bonus to excitement at The Ngaroi there is also an opportunity to shrug off the luxury of camp and head out for an evening under the stars in Wildlife Explorer’s Non Traditional Fly Camp.
Wildlife Explorer has two full time Walking Guides that are stationed at our wilderness camps. These guides are qualified in all aspects of true game walking with their knowledge of wild animal behaviour, tracking and experience with firearms they are able to treat our guests to an unforgettable safari on foot.
Please note that a ‘Game Walk’ is not to be confused with a ‘Hike’. A ‘Game Walk’ is exactly what it says - an opportunity to look for wild game on foot in the company of an experienced walking guide who will endeavour to track any animal of interest that may be encountered during the walk.
The Masai who inhabit the area provide a fascinating glimpse into an ancient culture. Living on the outer boundaries
of this vast wilderness when the migratory herds of Wildebeest and Zebra arrive onto the short grass plains the Masai
of The Ngaroi live an unspoilt traditional existence allowing our guests a wonderful opportunity to combine wildlife
experiences with cultural interaction.
The Ngaroi, Osunyai and Kou River
represent an exclusive opportunity to combine
